The two main options for snow-melting are cables or mats. Cables are the most affordable option at $8-$16 per square foot. Cables are more labor intensive than mats. Snow-melting mats are prefabricated on mesh rolls which help make the installation faster and easier. Mats normally cost about $10-$20 per square foot. There are different control options for cables and mats. A manual control is the most affordable, that will allow the owner to turn on and off when needed. Other options include moisture and air temperature sensors that will automatically turn on and off.
